National Frozen & Refrigerated Foods Association (NFRA) and participating company brands are bringing frozen food to families this fall by sponsoring an educational outreach program, “Cool Food for Kids,” to educate children about important and timely health topics.
The program will provide kids ages 8-11 (grades 3-6) and their families with the tools and resources to make informed eating decisions for every meal occasion.
“Frozen foods offer a variety of options for a balanced diet, are packaged to promote portion control, and are a perfect component for creating a family meal,” says Nevin Montgomery, NFRA president and CEO, “especially if meal time is squeezed between sports practices and music lessons.”
The curriculum materials include lessons for teachers and in-class activities, and also involve parents through kitchen-based homework activities. Teachers are under pressure to address the growing problem of childhood obesity, and few have up-to-date health textbooks or teaching materials that reflect today’s lifestyles.
The components of the program offer these resources to teachers at no cost.
